Dear Narasimha,

If rashi can be subdivided into amshas, e.g., navamsha to keep things
simple and these navamshas were given the same names and attributes
as the signs by the Originators of Jyotish it makes sense that the
division need not stop there. The same pattern can repeat further on
to give finer and finer subdivisions in different combinations of the
divisions as you proposed. After all, the Dasha, antardasha,
pratyantardasha, sukshma prana etc schema exists on that same
repeating basis and is never questioned by followers of jyotish.

And in order to accept this concept one didn't even have to leave the
basic solid jyotish framework and certainly did not have to seek
refuge in a completely different system to explain why jyotish
divisions work or how!

Beautifully put!

Divisions of divisions are possible. In fact, some of them ARE defined in tradition. Examples are navamsa-navamsa, navamsa-dwadasamsa and dwadasamsa-dwadasamsa.

But it is non-trivial to figure out what matters a division of a division shows. We have some examples in tradition (see charts listed above), but we are on our own to figure out what other divisions of divisions show. Unfortunately, we don't have the intellectual acumen of rishis!

However, accepting divisional longitudes and using them in transits can be the first step.

I already gave one example of George W Bush re-election when transit Jupiter's dasamsa chart longitude matched natal Moon's kshetra (kshetra=rasi) chart longitude. Let me give one more example.

My birthdata: 1970 April 4, 5:47:13 pm (IST), Machilipatnam, India

Event data: 1994 January 28, 6:00 pm (IST), Hyderabad, India

The event was starting the vratam of reciting Sri Maha Lakshmi's 108 names 108 times on every Friday. I started this practice on that day at the time mentioned. By Her grace, I have done it every Friday for almost 12 years now. It'll be a Pushkaram in January 2006 (incidentally, Ketu will be transiting exactly on my lagna sphuta in kshetra chart and Mercury-Rahu-Ketu PD will be running).

The event of 1994 January 28 may seem like a small event to some, but has been a landmark event in my life and a truly life-transforming one. It is the most important event of my life so far.

Let us see the transits.

In my chart, the 8th house of rasi chart (the house of sadhana/tapasya) is owned and occupied by Mars. Mantra pada (A5) is right there too. So let us see the transit of Mars in rasi and navamsa. Mars was transiting at that time at 6Cp30 in kshetra chart and 28Aq33 in navamsa chart. In my natal navamsa chart, Sun (12th lord of rasi chart) is at 7Cp53 and the kshetra transit of Mars activated him. More importantly, my AK Moon is at 28Aq33 in natal kshetra chart. Transit of Mars on that EXACT longitude in navamsa triggered Moon.

Now, see the transit of Jupiter. Jupiter's navamsa transit was at 24Pi43 and it is close to natal kshetra Sun at 20Pi53. Jupiter's kshetra transit was at 19Li25 and that closely aspects natal Moon's navamsa position at 17Ge01.

So, using the rasi-navamsa cross aspects as I mentioned in a previous mail, Jupiter and Mars both activated the luminaries - 12th lord Sun and AK Moon. Especially, Mars's navamsa transit was exactly on natal kshetra Moon (just like Jupiter's dasamsa transit was exactly on natal kshetra Moon at the time of Bush's re-election).

If only we want to look carefully, there is a lot that planets are willing to reveal!

May Jupiter's light shine on us,
Narasimha
